If you’re lucky enough to be planning a trip to Spain, then Barcelona must be on your list of cities to visit.

Even if you only have a short time to explore this wonderful city, then you’re going to want to plan.

Knowing the must-see sites will make planning your trip easier. Then you can be sure that even if you haven’t had the time to discover all that Barcelona has to offer, you’ve seen some of its best features.

We’ve included a list of the four things to do in Barcelona and places you must see. It’s a slightly different list if you are visiting on a shore excursion, but if your visit consists of these four, then you’re sure to have a phenomenal experience in Barcelona.

Boqueria Market

The Boqueria Market, which was the location of a convent, is an open market that’s been around for over 175 years. The market is a culinary delight with colors, aromas, and flavors that capture the ultimate Spanish food experience.

In addition to the specialty hawkers who sell Jamon Iberico or manchego cheese, you can stop in at one of the many bars or restaurants for the full experience.

It can get crowded, so try to come during off hours, if you can. But do come with an empty stomach, and be prepared to bring some goodies back to the hotel with you.

Barri Gotic (Gothic Corner)

If you want to see some of the most beautiful architecture in the world, then a visit to the Barri Gotic or Gothic Quarter must be on your list of things to do in Barcelona.

This maze of alleyways is the oldest part of Barcelona. It’s filled with shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes juxtaposed with beautiful Medieval buildings and courtyards.

Within Barri Gotic are plaza and Cathedrals, shopping and dining. The area will be buzzing with life from morning till late in the evening, but if you don’t mind crowds, you’ll find the area exhilarating.

Some of the places to visit within the Quarter are Barcelona Cathedral, Placa Reial, and Placa Sant Jaume. You’ll spend hours wandering with intrigue at every corner.

Parc Guell (Guell Park)

Guadi made his mark across Barcelona, and Parc Guell was no exception. This delightful park, at one point a rich housing community, became a park modeled after the gardens of England.

Spend some time wandering around the 42 acres that look like pages out of a twisted fairy tale. There are also lovely pathways, architecture, mosaics, staircases, and tunnel, in addition to the plant life.

Take with you a picnic lunch and enjoy the view, or stroll and explore all the park has to offer. If you do choose to explore the park’s many trails, it should be noted that some are a little rough around the edges.

La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia, or the Church of the Sacred Family, is a massive Gothic church. Catalan Art Nouveau master, Antoni Gaudi, devoted much of his life, to its construction. Unfortunately, the construction is yet to be finished, although they say it might be done by 2026.

Originally, the artist, Francesc del Paula Villar, was commissioned to be the architect of the church but left due to disagreements with the funders.
