Vapes on a Plane: What You Can (and Can’t) Take On-Board With You

vapes on a plane

Planning to hop on a plane soon? You’ll want to take all of your essentials with you, this includes your vape. There are a few rules and regulations regarding them though. For the safety of everyone else on the plane, you’ll want to abide by them.

The rules aren’t major, are easy to follow, and listening to them will ensure that you have a pleasant flight. In this article, we’re going to go over these regulations, how to store your vape, how to prepare it, and anything else you need to know about taking vapes on a plane before you book your flight.

1. How Can You Pack Your Vape

You’re allowed to have your vapes on a plane but you need to make sure that your extra batteries are stored in a way where they won’t combust.

Your vape should always be turned off during the entire duration of the plane ride and you need to keep it away from any magnets, change, anything in your purse that could start a fire.

2. Rules for Flying with Your Vape

There are certain rules with having vapes on a plane. You can’t vape during the flight because not only is it rude to the other passengers, but it’s also banned on most flights.

You also aren’t allowed to charge your vape during the flight so even if you could vape, you would probably want to conserve power anyway.

3. Can You Bring the Vape Juice on the Plane

You can take your vape juice on the plane but it has to be a certain size. You can’t take any bottle bigger than 100ml.

Say you vape with CBD oil for medical purposes, you can bring it on the plane but you need to look up the laws in your area to see the regulations on it.

4. Checked Bag or Carry on Bag

You can have your vape in a carry on bag but you can’t store it in a checked bag. The reason for this is that the batteries can explode in and cause a fire.

Just because it’s in a carry on bag doesn’t mean it won’t be checked though. It will be looked at right at the gate or planeside. You’ll have to take out your vape pen and any spare batteries to be inspected.

5. Be Discreet With It

You should never hide your vape from anyone, but TSA isn’t going to strain themselves to look for it. Any cases and the things that go in it are perfectly legal to carry around.

You don’t want to get yourself detained for anything suspicious so get a carry case that looks kind of like a wallet. If it looks normal and harmless you’ll be able to travel with it without a hitch.

6. Clean Your Kit before You Go on the Plane

You should make sure to always clean your tanks and everything else dealing with your vape pen before you go on the plane. This is because you have to keep in on a carry-on.

Flights tend to get a little bumpy, it wouldn’t be pleasant if the flight knocks anything loose while your pen still has juice in it. It would dump all over the contents of your bag or purse.

It’s also for this reason that you want to get a case. Don’t have your things just free in your bag.

7. Get a Smell Proof Case

You should get a smell proof case for a couple of reasons. If you’re wanting to be discreet and not get detained at all, it’s a little hard to do that if your bag smells like your vape juice. Questions might be raised.

Another reason is so everything in your bag doesn’t smell like your vape materials or if you just don’t want other passengers to smell your bag the entire flight. It can be good for you, and it’s just courteous.

Finally, if you do vape with CBD oil, it can ease anxiety but it’s also rather potent. It could really bring attention where you don’t want it.

8. Rules with Batteries

Batteries are tricky because they can and will combust. It’s just too unsafe for there not to be rules centered around it.

The batteries also have to go with the device that it’s made for. You can’t use one with more firepower then the vape can handle, in other words. If you have any modified batteries you won’t be able to bring them along with you either.

Again, they’ll have to be placed in a carry on bag along with all your other vape materials. Any sort of drastic pressure changes from having them in a checked bag will make the combust as well. Lithium batteries have to be handled with extreme care.
