Magnificent History of Israel

Israel is a country with one of the richest, culturally diverse histories in the world. There’s so much to learn and understand about Israel that archeologists and historians are still working to uncover the fine points of its history, who lived on the land, and the factors that make it such a hotbed of culture, conflict, and inspiration to many.

Before you can get into the fine points, though, it’s important to understand the building blocks of how it came to be.

We’re going to take a look at the history of Israel today, giving you some insight into its fundamentals. Hopefully, the information below can give you a solid foundation of understanding.

Let’s take a look.

A Brief Guide to The History of Israel

The history of Israel begins with the origin of the Jewish people. Moses is said to have led the Israelites to the promised land around 3,300 years ago. This number is a rough estimate, but it’s generally thought that the Jewish nation started sometime around 1800 BCE.

Jewish people have had a presence on the land since then, although they’ve been persecuted throughout most of their history. Kings David and Solomon established capitals and temples in roughly 1000 BCE, but the flourishing country would experience longstanding disturbances about 500 years later.

Israel was captured by Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylonian army in the 5th century BCE, and the land was subject to occupation by a succession of powerful armies from the Romans all of the way up to the British empire in the 20th century.

In the rubble of WWII, The British Empire recognized the right of the Jewish people to occupy what was then Palestine.

This immediately sent that region of the globe into conflict. There were different groups of people living on that land, attributing their own sacred meaning to it. The result was groups of people defending what they thought to be their homelands in a series of Israel wars.

The Jewish and Palestinian people have been at war or experiencing land conflicts since that time. It’s a political struggle that has yet to be solved and evolves to this day.

The Current State of Israel

Despite longstanding difficulty and conflict, the country of Israel is a positive place to live with a great economy.

There are pros and cons to living in Israel, as there are in any country.

Cultural norms are geared toward Jewish customs and traditions, while it isn’t out of place for someone who isn’t Jewish to live and thrive there. You’ll find most, if not all, of the modern luxuries of life in Israel.

One point of interest is the fact that the government grows right-winged. Depending on who you are, this might be something to consider if you plan to move there. Traveling to Israel, however, is an excellent idea for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of a new culture.
