None of the campgrounds have dump stations or electric hookups so you have to be ready to truly unplug. The park is open year-round and the campground accessibility varies by season but there is always at least one campground open.
Most of the campsites are free and the forest doesn’t have any entrance fees.
3. White Mountain National Forest
These mountains in New Hampshire will give you a remote and rustic camping experience. These mountains go through the Appalachians and the hiking can be a bit rough at times but it is worth the challenge.
There are 24 campgrounds you can choose from and a combined 800 campsites you can stay at. You will have to make reservations if you are planning on staying at any of the developed campsites. Most of the forest is free to camp in but you might have to pay a $5 daily pass fee in some parts.
If you live nearby you might want to consider buying an annual pass to enjoy the forest year-round.
