Here’s What You Need to Know If You Want to Smoke Weed in Canada, Eh

smoke weed

It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, isn’t it? Finally, we can hang out on the street, smoke weed, and all this without the fear of the strong hand of the law tapping us on the shoulder.

Canada here we come! Right? Well, almost.

Recreational marijuana in Canada is now legal, but the authorities are taking a pragmatic approach. A myriad of coffee shops where you can smoke weed legally hasn’t sprung up overnight.

So what’s changed, how can you get your hands on some cannabis, and what do you need to watch out for? We’re here to give you our top tips that can take you to a higher place across the American border.

The Legal Age Limit to Smoke Weed in Canada

You must be 19 to buy, possess, and smoke weed in most of Canada, including British Columbia. Beware, because sharing with minors is a crime.

Where to Buy Your Weed

There are still relatively few shops which sell cannabis. Retail stores have still not opened in Ontario but the government is moving towards a regulated retail model early next year.

Montreal, the rest of Quebec, and New Brunswick are leading the way when it comes to legal cannabis stores. And, one Canadian TV station has put together its own rather helpful province by province guide to outlets that’ll sell you weed.

It’s possible to buy online, but there are restrictions. For a start, you’ll need a Canadian credit card and address to complete your purchase.

Smoking Weed in Public

This is not always allowed and varies by local jurisdiction. You can’t smoke pot on the sidewalk in several provinces, for example.

Alberta, Ontario, and British Colombia have some of the most relaxed local laws, but even here there are restrictions.

Smoking Weed and Driving

This is still a big, “No, no.”

Driving under the influence of weed is still illegal in Canada. If you’re caught driving while high, you could face big fines and even end up in prison.

Other Cannabis Products

CBD oil is a product that can be extracted from cannabis but it doesn’t contain any of the plant’s properties which make you high.

The oil is credited with having medicinal properties, including relieving pain, inflammation, and reducing anxiety.

The good news is you don’t need to go to Canada to get it. Wellspring CBD lotion is available for shipping to all states across America.

Taking Weed out of Canada

Nine U.S. states now allow recreational marijuana use, including several which share a border with Canada.

This doesn’t mean you can bring weed back and forth with you, and there are heavy fines if you get caught.

Stay Safe in Canada

Although the lid’s been lifted on smoking weed in Canada, it’s not a complete free for all.

Don’t get caught out. Make sure you’re up to speed on age limits and the provincial rules about where you can actually smoke weed.
